Women rise!

“If there is to be a future, it will wear a crown of feminine design.” Sri Aurobindo

golden-bronze-girl-sfe

What did Sri Aurobindo mean by feminine? He meant women and the deep feminine within us all, that is our ‘souls’. It is vital that the feminine ‘rise’ as the masculine has been dominant for too long and this way of thinking and acting is destroying this planet!

I take this moment to reflect upon the world as it stands on the precipice of an uncertain future, which could mean the end of life on this planet!  With rising political tensions, environmental degradation and destruction, a lack of fresh water for half of the population, and the threat of nuclear war on our doorstep, this is not a time to be nonchalant nor complacent. It is up to each and everyone of us to put aside our self-serving tendencies and differences, and to find common ground in which we all share. The Earth is one Earth, with finite resources, and if we destroy it, we destroy ourselves.

Divide and conquer, winner -loser mentality and actions are not the answer, as these strategies are steeped in domination, insecurity and selfishness. What the world needs is sharing and caring and this can only come about by the rise of the deep sacred feminine within us all, and the respect of the Earth which is our home!

The deep sacred feminine does not war, as it sees itself in each and everyone, yet this has to be integrated deep within the psyche of all people. The deep feminine respects nature and knows that it is a cosmic being.  Recent women leaders like Margaret Thacher, were not leading from the feminine, she was leading from her masculine (animus) and in fact had to subjugate her feminine(anima) in order to play politics in a ‘man’s world!’ The true deep feminine accepts difference, embraces relationship and connection, and sees the pattern that connects everything with each other, part of the whole.

In a time before written records, society was centered around women. Women were revered for their mysterious life-giving powers, honored as incarnations and priestesses of the great goddess. They reared their children to carry on their line, created both art and technology, and made important decisions for their communities. This was from the Paleolithic era, 1.5 to 2 million years ago, until sometime around 3000 BCE.

This can be seen in the many hand paintings and frescoes in caves, which were done by paleolithic women, and all of the artifacts of statues found of this time which show the great nurturing and procreative mother!  Other civilizations like the Minoans that were relatively peaceful, were also very feminine,  as can be seen by artifacts of full breasted women and on frescoes, and limited fortifications!

I don’t think this ancient era of the ‘feminine’ was one in which women dominated or ruled, as men do today. I think it was a shared experience in which the feminine was highly revered for her wisdom and guidance, her knowledge of the earth, and her creative powers, and men were respected for their role as hunters, tool makers and protectors.   If we compare this to contemporary ancient traditional cultures like the aboriginal people of Australia; we come to realize that there is women’s business and men’s business, and each sex respects each others’ part and expression in the shared whole of the community.

Genetically speaking, women have two X chromosomes as their 23rd pair of chromosomes, each containing 2000 genes, and a man has an X (2000 genes) and a Y (90 genes). The Y is relatively new to evolution, having being created only 400 million years ago, thus it all began with the X! Carl Jung, the 20th century psychologist, who coined the terms archetypes and collective unconscious,  said, that we are both masculine and feminine, coming both from our mother and our father, and that both sexes have both masculine(animus) and feminine( anima) psyches- primary anthropomorphic archetypes of the unconscious mind-that need integration in order for a person to be ‘whole’ and not fragmented.

During the last 5000 years, the world has been predominantly patriarchal, primarily because of monotheism and a ‘male Godhead’ which can be ascribed historically to Moses and/or AkhnatenAmenhotep IV ( who may have been the same person according to Ahmen Osman in his book, Moses and Akhenaten:The Secret History of Egypt at the time of the Exodus).

I think monotheism and a ‘male godhead’ was the beginning of the downfall of our psyche, causing a schism that split our internal world from our external world, between men and women, nature and man, causing much rift and conflict, as the facts in history show us.

History reveals the burning of the library of Alexandria ( thousands of years of history lost) by Christians, the forced abdication of the Goddess with the Council of Constantinople 360 A.D. and the Council of Nicea 325AD, the destruction of the Second Temple( Jewish) in Jerusalem by the Romans, who later made it into a Christian temple, which later became a Muslim Mosque, the forced conversions to Christianity and Islam, the ongoing crusades between Christians and Muslims, the 30 Years’ War between Protestants and Catholics,  the further division of Christianity into Pentecostal, Latter Day Saints, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses etc and the battles that still persist today between monotheistic faiths.

During the failing Roman Empire, Constantine 1, In 325 AD, called for a meeting of the early Catholic Church bishops to be held in Nicea to resolve some escalating controversies among the church leadership. Thus, at the Council of Nicea( based upon the teachings of Judaism), the early Catholic church bishops and Constantine 1 made Christ(the story of the ‘Christos’ was taken from ancient Egypt) immortal through his resurrection, even though there is no mention of this previously in any texts. Essentially, making Christ divine, gave power to the Church leaders to control the flock and to bring in ever increasing numbers – and by executing people if they didn’t convert- thereby intensifying their feelings of guilt and shame associated with being human, unlike their prophet, who was now immortal.

Also, at the Council of Nicea, the early Catholic Bishops debunked the goddess, got rid of the lunar virgin, mother and crone and replaced it with the father, son and holy spirit. This  led further to the removal of laws and property to women, the introduction of payment to sacred prostitutes- making them slaves to men’s lust and the demeaning of the sacredness of sex- and introduced that men were the caretakers of the Earth, in which women were previously. This, within a couple of hundred years, led to Islam( which was essentially Christian and Jewish, as they were/are all based on the same texts), as people were wanting a mortal prophet, which led to further fragmentation of monotheistic faiths and the subjugation of the feminine, the dark ages, and the raping of the planet.

Things must not be reduced to a single, isolated principle, be it ever so noble or elevated. For always above and all, the whole is at stake. Fundamentalism in whatever form, solves no problems but only suppresses them. The world is dying, keynesian economics don’t work, and war only begets more war! Yes, the deep feminine needs to rise!

How can we do this? We can cooperate with each other! At a political, legal and economic level we can make most laws non-gender specific, in which both men and women are treated equal by the law, irregardless of their sex. Laws which protect women from men’s abuse however, should be strengthened, as well as laws which protect the environment.  We can make women’s wages equal to men’s wages, and legislate against the continually rising of corporate CEO’s wages- ‘lions share’ mentality which is making the majority more poorer-and remove loopholes which allow the ‘super rich’ to avoid paying taxes!  We can have an equal representation of women in politics!  Yet, most importantly, we need to put the environment first in politics, and not vote for any political party that denies climate change!

At a personal level,  we can start by really ‘feeling’ things, reaching deep into our feelings, as this connects us to ‘love’ and our ‘spiritual body’, and helps us to know things. We can release ourselves from our fears and doubts(and this includes personal as well as collective), and know that knowledge is the antidote to  ignorance. The truth is ‘out there’ and ‘within us’, and we need to learn discernment, not just feed into collective ‘beliefs’! We can experience ‘beingness’ more,  by letting go of our need to continually ‘do’ and be ‘active’, as we can only hear ‘soul’, when we are still and quiet, and this is what gives us ‘inner peace’ and the clues to our purpose in life.   We can spend more time in nature, doing our bit to keep it clean and to nurture it in our own small way. We can contemplate nature’s cycles and the beauty and gifts that are given to us freely. We can become more caring and giving. We can practice more gratefulness.

Let’s take this moment to give reverence to the Earth that has given us life, that nurtures us and gives us a home; and let us give reverence to Source, which gave us our essence, the spirit that connects us all. Let’s remember to put the Earth first, directed by our soul and spirit, for if we do not, then there will be no future for this planet!

Just as we all have a Father and a Mother, it makes sense to love all men, women, boys and girls, and the feminine and masculine within ourselves and within others. Just as there is the sun, the moon, and the stars, and nature’s unfolding dance, it makes sense to love all of creation.

However, in order for the phoenix to rise from its ashes it is vital that the deep feminine, that has been suppressed for so long rise! WE must all embrace the non-judging,  caring, intuitive, emotional, creative, unconditional loving part of ourselves and others. It is women and children who are leading the way!  Love is the key!  Peace and blessings, Bridget Cameron <3…

Ocean Womb

This is an old poem that I want to share with you!  It is the experience I had just after exchanging vows with my beloved. All of nature joined in to share our joy, and for one hour or so, I swam with the dolphins and heard the most beautiful music.

Sea Dance by Bridget Cameron

OCEAN WOMB

Looking out towards the ocean from the crest in the dune where I stand, I see an expanse of water that continues as far as the horizon. Where the water meets the sand, waves break, producing foaming froth, as the sea sparkles her brilliance at me. From the froth I visualise Botticelli’s, Birth of Venus as she rides on her shell towards me.

I walk a little further until I reach the beach and sit in quiet contemplation, marvelling many of nature’s secrets, until an urge draws me into the whispering sea…

I splash, I bathe, I run, I skip, I swirl, I swim, I am embraced. I feel like a child wrapped in the arm s of a loving Mother, nurtured and loved we unite as one. She sings to me, she clothes me, I am the seed within her liquid womb.

Small colourful fish swim with me, kissing my body ever so gently, and lead me to an oasis of dolphins dreaming. Two streams of dolphins unite to create future magic. I become part of their dreaming and recall the unfolding of nature’s celestial tunes within the cathedral of my heart. Such ecstasy and beauty fill me, as I ride the rippling diamond sea upon the dolphins’ breath.

The heavens open sprinkling the earth as waves caress my body and land me upon the shore. Standing upright a rainbow bridge joins a golden setting sun and a rising silvery moon.

THANK YOU!

I know that pain and suffering are one side of the coin of life,

thus accept them and grow through them,

whilst remaining vigilant to the joy and light within my heart,

and let them direct me.
