A Spring walk up Anstey Hill and my meeting with some animal friends.

A red kangaroo ( Macropus rufus) checks me out!

I went for a walk yesterday and climbed to the top of Anstey Hill, in the Anstey Hill Recreation Park, which is situated on the North Eastern boundary of the Mount Lofty Ranges, otherwise known as the Adelaide Hills Face Zone. The Adelaide Hills are the result of the Eden/Burnside fault in which two sides have squeezed together, forcing up the land. Occasionally ‘earth tremors’  and even quakes, such as the 1954 quake are experienced in Adelaide, as a result of this fault.

Putting geology aside, the walk on this sunny Spring day, brought out myriad of insects, animals and birds. I saw a multitude of butterflies, parrots, wattle birds, wrens, tits and honey birds, and had a family of three red kangaroos spy on me and follow me for some time, up the rocky path. This photo is the juvenile of the group, being only half the size of his parents!

The Spring orchids were just emerging, with ‘blue fairies’ and ‘donkey orchids’ showing their upturned faces, and the scent of Spring flowers intoxicated my senses! 🙂

HOPE UPON A RAINBOW SEA HORIZON

HOPE UPON A RAINBOW SEA HORIZON

Hooray! In recent weeks, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim have all called on countries and business to take the threats posed by global warming more seriously. Jim made what many believe was an historic call for investors to consider ditching holdings in fossil fuel companies.
Is this the beginning of a new era?
With the G20 Summit in Brisbane, Australia, this November, and The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, France in 2015, let’s hope for strong cohesion and implementation of policies to greatly reduce carbon emissions and for the use of more environmentally friendly renewal energy. The conference’s objective is to achieve a binding and universal agreement on climate, from all the nations of the world. http://www.rtcc.org/2014/02/05/imf-chief-lagarde-warns-of-merciless-climate-change/

GARDEN OF THE SEA

GARDEN OF THE SEA

Come on down, to the garden,
the garden of the sea.

Where coral life breathes,
just like leaves.

With colours of abundance,
that we should not make redundant.

Rich purples, pinks, yellows, oranges and lime,
let’s not let it turn to slime.

Where angel fish, lion fish, damsel fish do,
shark, cetacean,shell and worm make a home,too.

Where crystal clear reflections, refract in rainbow hues,
let’s do our part to keep it clean, now let’s take our cue.

World Ocean Summit Puts Marine Issues “On Global Agenda”

World Ocean Summit Puts Marine Issues “On Global Agenda”.

Hundreds of representatives from international governments, environmental organizations, academic institutions, and corporations have gathered in Half Moon Bay, California, for the World Ocean Summit February 24-26.

‘ “ Our oceans are in crisis….It is our lungs, our pantry, and a huge source of prosperity…. Collectively we can and must do more,” said Packard, who warned that we “stand on the edge” of ocean health. “’

NATURE’S TONIC

Image

Oh sweet beauty,
manifest before my eyes,
your solitude calls me to be still.

The soft green hues,
of the sun’s filtered light,
through your leaves,
rests my eyes.

I begin to relax,
As tension fades,
and unwind to peace.

Peace

Be Still…
