Peace in the garden

My first water lily for the season has bloomed in my little garden pond. It is so beautiful, and so is my fish too 🙂 ❤

Peace within, creates beauty without…. Be as the water lily, opening to the rising sun, unaffected by the muddy depths of its birth, or even the water that sustains it.

I had a couple of visitors enjoy some Spring sunshine with me. I just love these wrens! :).

I swim with the fish and all the creatures of the sea.

I travel the strings of pearls to the treasure chest of wisdom deep within my soul.

Hover Fly magic

Hoverfly, hoverfly, what do you taste?
You taste sweet nectar from the tangelo tree.
Drink it up, lap it up, gorge on it if you must,
And eat all the pollen before it turns to dust.
Your little adventure may be a feast to you,
Yet without it, they’d be no future for the tangelo tree or you.

Superb Fairy Wren (Malurus cyaneus)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve been trying to capture the image of one of these beautiful birds for such a long time, almost as long as my memory serves me. They are quite rare and to catch the  fleeting aqua/blue as they fly past is quite extraordinary. It is only the male fairy wrens that have the bright blue aqua plumage, and only when they are breeding. When they are not breeding, they take on the brown colours of the female wren, although parading a blue/purple tail.  Males are usually found with females, as they are socially monogamous. The females brown plumage support a blue tail and they have red feathers around the eyes.

AUSTRALIAN RESEARCHERS HAVE DISCOVERED that crafty fairy-wrens can understand and respond to the danger calls of other birds, suggesting that they have an advanced level of awareness about the world around them. For more information about this, please read this article at Australian Geographic.

Fairy-wrens eavesdrop to avert danger.

p.s. Most images of superb fairy wrens have been enhanced to a more cyan/blue colour, yet their plumage in reality is closer to the photograph that I have taken above. I hope you enjoy his image!  I most certainly do… :).

Winter Daphne blooms

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Winter Daphne, Daphne.odora f. Rosacea: I’ve waited all Winter for my Daphne to flower, and finally, now that spring is here, it has bloomed. Hooray!

It’s perfume is magical, with its strong lemony, rose, honeysuckle, magnolia and hints of spicy notes. It adds its fragrance to highly perfumed Spring blossoms and transports me to tropical frangipani scented breezes… 🙂 ❤

FISHY LOVE

FISHY LOVE

It’s always nice to spend a little time watching fish, as I find them so relaxing. My aquarium sprung a leak and I almost lost my Gymnocorymbus Ternetzi (Black Widows), Danios, White Clouds and Catfish. Fortunately, I have a pond, and rescued them, and now they are happy swimming around with some goldfish too.

BOURGANVILLEA MAGIC

BOURGANVILLEA MAGIC

It’s amazing what imagery can be created using mirroring. I created this magical cathedral by simply mirroring a section of of beautiful Bourganvillea, that grows over my back fence. If one looks closely, there are whole galaxies of images to be found. Can you see the butterfly at its centre? What can you see?

IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT

IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT

I’d like to think that most of the time little things matter more than the big things. When you think about it and think microscopically, most of earth is made up of space, space that we can not see, yet just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it is not there, and that it is not important. Far from it! Beautiful things like flowers, with their magnificent colour, design and perfume and dew drops, with their rainbow and diamond lustre are simply magnificent and free! Have a look at this gorgeous butterfly that landed on my daughter’s hand. These little things are truly valuable! 🙂

Charles de Meurville Waterlily

Charles de Meurville Waterlily

Look what has bloomed in my pond! This lovely hardy waterlily ‘Charles de Meurville’ is an exquisite free-flowering cultivar with star-shaped, lightly scented flowers held above the water surface. Its innermost petals are deep fuchsia while the outermost ones a pure pink. The centre is filled with orange stamens, attractive to many passing insects. It is such a delight.
